# How to add the wage of everyone who makes, packs or delivers

Add the wage of everyone who makes, packs or delivers your products. Prophitable adds your employer costs to work out what an hour of their time really costs, and it uses that rate for the labor in every recipe, package and product.

## Add your own wage

Prophitable made a staff record for you when you signed up, so start with yours.

1. Go to **Staff** and click your name.
2. Under **Compensation**, choose the **Wage Type**:
   - **Hourly**: enter your **Amount Per Hour**.
   - **Salary**: enter your **Amount Per Year** and check **Default Hours Per Week**, which turns the salary into an hourly figure.
3. Check the **Employer Costs**. **Payroll Taxes**, **Workers' Compensation** and **Unemployment Insurance** start at 7.65%, 2% and 3%, which are common US rates. Change them to your own if you know them. If you pay for benefits or other costs every month, add them too.
4. Click **Save**.

Save won't go through until the person has a first name, a last name, a role and a wage above $0.

## Add the people who work for you

1. On the **Staff** page, click **Add Staff**.
2. Enter their **First Name** and **Last Name**, pick an **App Role**, and fill in **Compensation** the same way.
3. Click **Save**.

Adding someone doesn't give them a login or use up a seat on your plan. You can do that later from their row with **Invite to App**.

## What you'll see

The figure at the bottom of **Compensation** is **Total Paid Per Hour**: the wage plus your employer costs. Someone paid $18.50 an hour, at the starting rates, costs you **$20.84** an hour.

Prophitable costs labor at the average Total Paid Per Hour of your active staff. A recipe step that takes 30 minutes adds half an hour at that rate.

> [!TIP]
> Labor is the easiest cost to leave out. With your wage in, every minute a recipe takes has a real cost behind it, and a product's profit is what's left after paying for the work. If you give someone a raise, your recipes, packaging and products re-cost with it.

When a wage changes, edit it and save. Your recipes, packaging and products are re-costed with the new rate.

## Not paying yourself yet?

Enter what you'd pay someone else to do the work. Leave your wage out and your labor shows as $0, with a note that the labor rate isn't set, so your costs come out lower than they really are.
