# How to add outputs

Sell one recipe in several sizes or flavors? Add each one as an output on the recipe, with its size and anything extra it needs. Prophitable works out how many one batch makes and what each one costs.

## Add an output

Outputs live on the recipe they're made from, so there's no separate page for them.

1. Go to **Recipes** and open a recipe that makes **Portions**. (A Whole Item recipe is sold as it is, so it has no outputs.)
2. Under **Outputs**, click **Add Output**. It stays greyed out until the recipe itself can be saved, with its name, shelf life and ingredients.
3. Enter the output's **Name**, such as Small, Large or Chocolate.
4. Enter its **Size**: how much one unit weighs or measures. 9 oz of caramel is 255 g.
5. Check the **Shelf Life**. It starts as the recipe's own, and you can change it.
6. If this size needs more than the recipe itself, turn on **Additional Ingredients** (a topping, a coating) or **Assembly Steps** (filling, decorating) and add them.
7. Click **Save**.

Each output needs a name, a size and a shelf life before the recipe will save.

## What you'll see

**Recipe Makes** shows how many of this output one batch makes, and the bottom of the output shows its **Cost / Unit**. The caramel recipe makes 1,893 g a batch at $0.0106 a gram, so the 9 oz output (255 g) makes **7 per batch** at **$2.70** each.

Closed, each output reads as one line, like **9oz 255 g | 7 per batch | $2.70 each**. Click it to open it again.

> [!TIP]
> One batch can become as many sizes as you sell. Each size is costed from the same recipe, so every price starts from what that size really costs. When the recipe changes, so does every size and every product made with one.

## One size of each?

You don't need outputs. A product can use a Portions recipe straight from the batch, by weight. In the Getting Started guide, skip this step with **I make one size of each**.
